About work

Freezing series

The goal of the freezing series is to explore the characteristics of different media materials and the new context created by the recombination of items in an experimental way. The sensory connection and exploration are carried out with plant based handmade paper, ready-made objects collected during travel, painting, sewing and embroidery. Through the transparent display cabinet, we can express the sealing of time and objects. Different display cabinets carry different events. We can not only appreciate the physical properties and texture of the media materials, but also feel the vacuum in the cabinet. The dynamic contrast of the outside world with the silence in the cabinet is like the solidification of time and emotion.

Emotional Footprints I

Emotional footprints explore the perceptual and rational connection between items, people and the earth. The ready-made objects collected in foreign countries serve as the starting point for the emergence of emotions and convey the interwoven emotions by sewing and embroidery on handmade paper. The color, swing and composition of lines are like music scores. The high and low timbres complement different instruments, and emotions finally converge in different places. The ingredients of handmade paper are mixed with foreign soil and plants to show the uniqueness of different places.

A Completed Person

Both good and bad memories make us complete.

The time and memory are visualized by the characteristics of Cyanotype. Because of its chemical properties, Cyanotype shows dark and light color gradations with the length of exposure to ultraviolet light.

Memories have the similar characteristics. As time goes by, we tend to strengthen the memories we are willing to leave, while the bad ones are forgotten into dust.

However, everyone seems to be in a transparent box, which is invisible and untouchable, but it carries all the memories, reminding us that those bad memories do not disappear, but exist in another form, deposited, encapsulated in the subconscious.

Xinjiang

“Contradiction” is my impression of Xinjiang. Because of the concentration camp incident at that time, the local scenery and people gave me an extreme feeling. The desert Gobi made me feel the natural tranquility, but there was a sudden and sensitive atmosphere brewing in the tranquility, and there was obvious conflict with the surrounding environment. For example, red cloth strips against guerrillas and political declaration slogans with red words and graffiti can be seen everywhere. These features and symbols are incompatible with Xinjiang, a pure land full of nature. In the form of a map, the whole journey is accompanied by that kind of unrest and regional mystery.
